South Carolina State Legislative Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
B. As it relates to abortions, I support a woman's right to choose. It is my understand that government does not contribute to the cost of abortions; thus, the government should leave this aspect of a woman's life to her, her God and her physician. C. As long as the funds are used for medical services other than abortions and or are used for reimbursement for medical services other than abortions, as other medicaid reimbursements, the government should remove themselves.
No a) In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
b) In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
In order to balance the budget, I support accountability of funds prior to releasing the budget. There are probably areas where waste or redirection of funds should be occurring. I do not support taxes increases if assessments and accountability measures have not been explored. I do not support tax increases during a pandemic not where all questions of the tax payer has not been answered.
Yes a) Do you support a limit on campaign contributions to state candidates?
Yes b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
Yes e) Do you support automatic voter registration?
f) Do you support limiting disaster declarations to 15 days unless approved by the legislature?
C. While I can understand the desire for such a commission, I believe there should be much conversation by the legislators and those in support of and against such a commission. D. It is good for the voter to have a photo id to verify they are who they say they are based on the id, there should be considerations for those who can not get the id (i.e. a senior citizen who's birthing information is in a bible and there is no other record). F. I support extensive research regarding this matter with clear recommendations regarding the 15 days.
a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
b) Should an individual under 18 accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
Yes c) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
No d) Do you support the use of private prisons in South Carolina?
No e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
f) Should threatening harm against someone based on their race, color, religion, sexual orientation, or national origin be considered a felony?
No g) Do you support citizen's arrests?
A. Need More information. B. Depends on the nature of the crime and the age at the time of the crime. It is also important to know the mental state of the accused. E. I support mandatory minimum sentencing if the offenders are selling to minors, around schools or churches. F. Need more information G. I support citizens supporting information regarding a crime being given high consideration and the law enforcement agency being penalized if the evidence is not given priority consideration.
Yes a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support lowering state income taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
c) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
No d) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
e) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of South Carolina?
No f) Do you support requiring employers to provide paid family leave?
Yes g) Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
C. Depends on the regulations. E. I believe in a minimum wage and a livable wage with clear job description which clearly state the difference so that workers can determine if they are accepting the responsibilities of a living or liveable based on the job descriptions. Livable wages are to compensate workers so that they can better provide for their families.
Yes a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in South Carolina?
b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in South Carolina?
No d) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from South Carolina high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
I support state funding for charter schools as long as they resemble the makeup of the district and are not practicing discrimination (i.e. district racial makeup is 75% black, 15% white 10% hispanic; however, the charter school is 90% white and 10%). Unlawful immigrants status should have been addressed prior to them completing school. A penalty should be applied to whom ever broke the law. The immigrants should be presented for legal citizenship.
Yes a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes b) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?

d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
No e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
f) Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
A. Opioid abuse should be treated as other substance abuse. I need to know the reason opioid abuse is different from other forms of abuse. C. It depends. If an individual has to choose between health insurance and rent; surely, they will pay the rent. Need more information. Some individual can not afford to pay insurance, pay the deductible and pay all other living expenses. Consideration should be on a case by case basis. D. I do not have a position on this issue at this time. F. This issue requires more consideration, the government should pay the bill.
a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in South Carolina's anti-discrimination laws?
b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in South Carolina's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support greater efforts by South Carolina state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
No d) Do you support local governments having the authority, without review by state authorities, to remove certain memorials or monuments from public property?
A and B These issues require more consideration and details.
The state and or federal government should eliminate or minimize the amount students pay to become health care professionals.
My top legislative priority is rural areas access to the internet. I plan to continue working with providers and colleagues to provide funding. I plan to write letters of support and provide any assistance requested.
